Adopted by the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) as its official logo, the Happy Human symbol is an internationally recognized emblem of Humanism. Humanism is a rapidly emerging progressive outlook to life that promotes ethical living aimed at personal fulfillment and working generally for the good of all humanity. It is a philosophy that claims that all humans are responsible beings who are capable of morality and goodness without the influence of divine, religious or supernatural beliefs. It stresses the importance of defining common human needs or problems and seeking rational ways of solving them.

Humanism is gaining worldwide popularity as a system of thought. Its acceptance centers around its emphasis on the potential righteousness and moral values inherent in every human being. The Happy Human symbol represents a happy human race which forms the crux of the humanist philosophy that celebrates utilitarianism over religious dogma.

The original Happy Human icon is owned by the British Humanist Association (BHA) that got the image through a competition it had organized in 1965 to find a suitable logo for its Humanist movement. This winning design was submitted by Denis Barrington.

The symbol has found universal acceptance and popularity. Today, this image is being tailored or adapted by a number of authentic humanist organizations all over the world to represent themselves. The Happy Human will be found wherever you find Humanism.
